The Salmon Arm Silverbacks welcomed home fans back to Rogers Rink with a 3-2 exhibition game win.

The team's exhibition series kicked off Sunday, Sept. 8, with a game versus the Trail Smoke Eaters.

Despite some penalty trouble in the first period, the Silverback's managed light up the board late in the frame with a marker by newcomer Aaron Van Wie, assisted by Easton Walos and Brendan Espennell.

The Silverbacks added two more goals early in the second frame, the first being power-play marker by Liam Beamish, assisted by Ty Paisley and Riley Ashe. Closer to the halfway mark, Van Wie scored his second goal, assisted by Beamish.

In the third period, the Smoke Eaters' Dylan Lariviere potted a power-play conversion, followed soon after by a single-handed goal by teammate Callas Pierce.

The period continued with both teams losing players to the sin bin, including calls for fighting (5 minutes) and fighting misconduct (10 min) involving 'Backs forward Tanner Walos and Smokies forward Ridge Dawson.

Van Wie, of St. Louis, Missouri, who was signed by the Silverbacks this June, was named the game's first star. Second-star honours went to Silverbacks netminder Andrew Ballantyne of Whitby, Ont., who also signed with the team in June after having played a season with the Merritt Centennials.

Ballantyne stopped 32 shots on net during the Sept. 8 game.

The Silverback's exhibition series continues with a visit by the Venon Vipers, 7:30 p.m. at Rogers Rink on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
