Shea Weber is coming home, or at least a little closer to it.

The Nashville Predators captain has been traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Habs d-man P.K. Subban.

Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced the trade on Wednesday, June 29.

“It was also one of the most difficult decisions I had to make as general manager of the Montreal Canadiens,” comments Bergevin in a news release. “In Shea Weber, we get a top rated NHL defenceman with tremendous leadership, and a player who will improve our defensive group as well as our power play for many years to come.

“Shea Weber led all NHL defencemen last season with 14 powerplay goals. He is a complete rear guard with impressive size and a powerful shot. P.K. Subban is a special and very talented player. He provided the Canadiens organization with strong performances on the ice and generous commitment in the community. I wish him the best of luck with the Predators.”

Weber, 30, has been with the Predators since 2010.

He played 78 of 82 games during the Preds 2015/16 season, amassing 51 points – 20 goals, 31 assists. He led all NHL defencemen in power-play goals (14) and ranked third in power-play points (26).

Recently, the Sicamous native received the Mark Messier Leadership Award.
