Longtime Okanagan car show shines light on 9 ‘vintage’ classics

DeLorean from 1980s film ‘Back to the Future’ among vehicles featured

Walking through a Penticton mall on Saturday, April 13, was just like taking a trip down memory lane.

Nine cars, from 1930s models to the DeLorean made famous in the iconic 1980s flick Back to the Future, were featured as part of the Penticton Vintage Car Show inside Cherry Lane Shopping Centre.

Car owners from Oliver to Summerland took part in the event, which has been organized by the Vintage Car Club of Canada for close to 50 years.

‘They’re all my favourites,” Dave Shalanski, the show’s coordinator, said with a laugh when looking at the nine cars. “I like the involvement we have with all the vintage vehicles and looking back at all the history.

Starting on April 8, people were invited to start voting on which of the nine cars they liked the best.

Trophies were set to be awarded during an end-of-show celebration late on Saturday afternoon.

Shalanski, who was joined by his fellow show coordinator Marcel Morin, said he enjoys seeing the local classic car community come together every year for the event.

“All the cars have character and it’s always nice to talk about.”

Members from the Vintage Car Club of Canada’s South Okanagan Chapter are now looking forward to the 32nd annual Swap Meet set to take place at Oliver Parks and Recreation on April 27.

The event will feature showings of muscle cars, motorcycles and antique machinery.

Admisson is $5, and free for children 16 and under with a parent. The Oliver park is located at 655 McKinney Road.
