Eagle River Secondary Students showed they were able builders at a pair of trades and technology competitions at nearby universities this weekend. ERS fielded teams for the the 35th Annual Spaghetti Bridge Competition at Okanagan College in Kelowna and for the Skills Canada Cariboo Skills Competition held at Thompson Rivers University (TRU).

At the junior skills competition at TRU a pair of Grade 7 teams from ERS took third and fourth place in the gravity vehicle race. Grade 8s entered the spaghetti bridge contest, but did not place.

Additionally ERS student Ryan Spelay won a bronze in cabinet making and Tristyn Davies equalled his classmate’s feat in the carpentry category.

Mr. Meise’s Physics 11 class formed the ERS contingent that attended the 35th Annual Spaghetti Bridge Competition at Okanagan College

It was a day of competition marked by sweeps. Students from Eagle River Secondary in Sicamous landed in second, third, fourth and fifth place in the Secondary category, while Salmon Arm’s King’s Christian School swept the podium in the Secondary Team Building category.

“Today’s competition came off without a hitch,” said Okanagan College event organizer Michelle Lowry. “Congratulations to all the competitors – they represented themselves and their schools so well. We saw a lot of good sportsmanship and good citizenship today.”

Prize money for the event was provided by the event’s sponsors: the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia (ASTTBC), PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc., CTQ Consultants Ltd., Multi Power Products, Okanagan College Students’ Union, Interior Testing Services Ltd. and OP Machine Ltd.
