Beavers harmed by removal of their food source

Putting wire around trees at Salmon Arm foreshore interfered with nature.

A week ago I took our guests from China on the SABNES nature trail, after almost a year from my last walk there, in hopes of showing the guests the beavers’ handiwork. But we were disappointed to discover that the beavers have moved away.

That brought to mind the time when the city fathers were contemplating moving the beavers out in order to save the trees. But the self-styled ‘naturalists’ convinced council to leave the beavers and they would look after the trees.

Of course I could have told them at the time that you will have either beavers or trees but you won’t have both. But they proceeded to interfere with nature and put wire around all the trees.

To me that is animal cruelty tantamount to leaving a dog in a hot car.

The only way beavers can survive is to cut down trees. And now these poor beavers could not do this. This is what happens when you have ‘naturalists’ who grew up in the city and don’t have a clue about the natural order of nature.

I only hope that none of the beavers suffered any psychological damage from their experience in Salmon Arm Nature Bay.
