A former Sicamous Eagle is spreading his wings and leaving the nest.

In a May 1 media release, the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) announced that Sicamous Eagles goalie Dylan Marshall signed to play for Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University Dukes in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 for the 2024-25 season.

The 20-year-old Saskatoon product went 15-5-0 in 21 games for the Eagles in the regular season, helping get them to the KIJHL Teck Cup playoffs. Marshall also netted a shutout game, and blocked 552 of 611 shots on goal for a 0.903 save percentage.

“My time with the Eagles helped me earn this opportunity by believing in myself and them giving me the opportunity to continue my junior career in one of the best leagues,” he said in the release. “They took a chance on me and I can’t thank them enough for how they’ve helped me grow as a person and player. I am thankful to all of those that have helped me get to this point and am excited to be continuing at Duquesne University.”

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Duquesne Hockey said they’re “looking forward to watching you continue your hockey while going to school,” noting that his major will be sports information and media.

Though losing a strong player who, at 20 has aged out of the KIJHL, the Eagles are looking forward to watching his career advance.

“We are very excited to have another Eagle moving on to post-secondary education and continuing his hockey career at Duquesne University,” assistant general manager Rob Sutherland said in the release. “Dylan was a pleasure to have and brought good qualities to the club, and we wish him and the Dukes the best next season.”
