Single trustee board meeting July 5

Trustee Mike McKay will hold his first board meeting July 5 at 4 p.m. at the district office.

North Okanagan-Shuswap’s one-man board is going before the public.

Trustee Mike McKay will hold his first board meeting July 5 at 4 p.m. at the district office.

“The agenda for that meeting will be posted on the district website and will include receipt of the special adviser’s report and other emerging issues to be addressed,” he said in a release.

McKay was appointed trustee after the former board was fired by the provincial government. The firings took place after a special adviser’s report looked at the internal workings of the district, including the transfer of operational money to construction of an administration office.

In the release, McKay states that parents and the community are key partners in the education system.

“Schools and districts have to reach out, authentically engage and build shared vision and momentum toward a preferred future,” he said.

“I look forward to connecting with communities across the district in the coming weeks and months.”

He also says that he’s working with senior staff to review transparency, resources, home-school connections and governance.

“These areas, some of which were included in the special advisor’s report, will help us to identify priorities toward achieving our goals,” he said.

“Individually and collectively, we have an opportunity to make a positive difference in providing the very best education for students in the North Okanagan-Shuswap School District.”
