It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Astrid Jeanine Blomquist on March 8, 2023 at the age of 89 years. She passed away with family by her side, at the Village at Smith Creek Care Facility. A celebration of life service will be held at the Malakwa School on Saturday June 17th at 11 am. Born in a small home in Narcosli Creek near Alexandria, BC on November 22, 1933 to loving parents Selma and Bror Kilberg. Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, William (Bill) Blomquist, sister Edith (Eddie) Moule and brother Albert (Al) Kilberg. Survive by her sisters Anita Kilberg and Marilyn Nowoczin. Astrid and Bill lived in Malakwa for most of their lives were pillars of the community, helping out with whatever needed to be done. Astrid could often be seen on her daily walks around the community. She loved picking blueberries to make delicious pies or to top off the Swedish pancakes. She loved music, dancing and visiting with family and friends. In 2005 Astrid and Bill moved to Kelowna where they lived next to their daughter and her family. Bill passed away in 2017 and Astrid moved to the Village at Smith Creek at the end of 2020. Astrid will be missed by her loving family, children Bruce (Kip) of Malakwa, Christine (Leo) of Kelowna, Kent (Kiran) of Calgary; six grandchildren, Bryan, Kristy, Aiden, Spencer, Carson and Jack; two great grandchildren Michael & Kaliya. She will also be missed by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family including dear family from Sweden. The family extend a big "Thank You" to the staff at Village at Smith Creek Care Facility for their great care and compassion towards Mom.
