Second-half woes

After leading the Penticton Lakers 10-7 in the second half of the game, the Salmon Arm Secondary Golds rugby team completely lost momentum. The Lakers scored eight tries in the final 20 minutes of play to dominate the scoreboard. Final score was 59-15 for the Penticton squad.

The Salmon Arm Golf Club plays host to the prestigious Spalding Cup Tournament on May 27 and 28. Tee off time starts at 7 a.m., with a full slate of 200 players registered.

Girl power

The Girls Only Soccer School is back for its 21st year from July 10 to 14, at the Little Mountain sports fields. Sessions run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Fees includes a T-shirt and 15 hours of soccer skills, fun and friendship, all in a female-friendly environment.

Registration forms may be downloaded from the Shuswap Youth Soccer Association website.

The deadline is June 16 and is limited to 80 participants. The camp has been a sell-out for the past two years.

Tennis anyone?

The Salmon Arm Tennis Club is hosting its closed tennis tournament on May 26-28 including mens, ladies and doubles divisions, in an A and B format to accommodate all levels of play. Deadline for entries is noon, today, Wednesday, May 24. There is registration form in the tennis clubhouse, so people can register there. A potluck dinner will be held Saturday night.

Eye on new facility

Plans are in progress for the indoor tennis facility, with the rainy spring adding fuel to the desire for a place to play that doesn’t get rained out.

To date, all architectural, civil, mechanical and electrical drawings have been completed and submitted to the City of Salmon Arm for approval. The club is reporting they are on budget for all phases at this stage and are continuing to fundraise. The membership has pledged in excess of $72,000, but they are still nearly $150,000 from the goal.
