On Friday evening the gala concert of the 23rd Shuswap Music Festival took place.

In the more distant years we had to take our choirs to Kelowna to experience festival exposure. I was thoroughly delighted at so many aspects of our own festival that I feel your readers should know how lucky we are to have such an abundance of music.

Among the talents exposed here were piano, violin, cello and voice. Awards were also given to school choirs and bands.

The evening, so well run by the Festival committee, aided by the Rotary clubs, demonstrated that music is in excellent hands in the schools and with the many private teachers of music.

I have watched the growth of music in this community since 1956 and was never more proud than at Friday’s gala evening performance.

Apart from the festival, this is the time of year to hear several choir concerts, a string orchestra concert and a band concert.

Well done to all concerned.

Tom Brighouse
