Photography club contestants capture Shuswap

Several arts productions are taking place in February during Snow Days.

Several arts productions are taking place in February during Snow Days. They will be at rolling out at the end of the month.

The Eagle Valley Photography Arts Club is holding a photo contest, exhibits and awards. Viewing of photos and winners will be made known Feb. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Red Barn Arts Centre.

Entry forms are available at Inkx Printing, #2 – 444 Main Street.

The photos must have been taken between November 2011 and February 2012, and in the Shuswap area. Categories are: Sicamous Snow Daze, Winter Scenes, Wild Life and People.

Photos must be 8x10 matted. The photo contest runs from Jan. 27 to Feb. 20.

The deadline for judging is Feb. 20. For more information, phone Tia at 250-804-1788, or Kim at 250-833-8085.

On Sunday, Feb. 26, the Eagle Valley Photography Arts Club is showing a slide photo show at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $5, and will be held at the Red Barn Arts Centre.

If you have never been to one of their shows, I can highly recommend it. It is truly amazing the amount of photographic talent that is in Sicamous and surrounding areas.

Gamut returns

Also on Saturday Feb. 25, there will be a Gamut. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Barn Arts Centre, presented by the Monashee Mountain Arts Society.

The evening promises an “eclectic collection of local performers and genres of performances.”

Featuring the Eagle River Secondary Jazz Band and an In Da Dark Productions theatrical trailer for their upcoming play, Murder Over a Love Song, with music by Influx, Jacob Verburg, Kyle Fitzpatrick and a special performance by “Elvis” and other acts.

Admission is by donation.

Spring ahead

The Sicamous Amateur Drama Club has decided to move their annual spring play from April to June, thereby hoping to entice tourists to attend the production. This was decided because of the out-of-town interest shown last year when the entire Sunday matinee was sold out to people that came by tour buses from Kelowna and Kamloops. The club would like to expand on this.

The play is a two-act piece titled, The Blue Bonnet Sisterhood.

The club needs volunteers for helping with the sets, costumes and make-up. Even if you have no experience but are willing to help, and have a lot of fun too, it would be greatly appreciated, and we “learn as we go” together.

Please call Carla 250-836-4705 for more information.

Jam plan

I also have a personal request. I play the Celtic harp but am not very motivated to practise on my own.

I am looking for either a flute player or a recorder player to jam together.

The mix of flute/recorder and harp is beautiful.

My aim is to do small performances, but mainly to have fun.
