ROOTS&BLUES veterans Delhi 2 Dublin are returning to Salmon Arm to get people out and dancing.

The Lower Mainland band, known for its energetic performances driven by a musical mash-up of bhangra, Celtic, dub, reggae and electronica, with global rhythms and club beats, will be performing at the SASCU Recreation Centre in an April 20 show hosted by the Celebrate Shuswap Society. Opening for the band will be Canadian music legend Darby Mills of The Headpins fame, playing with Kamloops guitar wizard, Jon Treichel.

“Nurtured by equal parts raucous underground bass parties and all ages folk festivals, Delhi 2 Dublin’s always distinctive sound has evolved into its own decisive genre, freshly styled, “Subcontinental Pop”—a name that conveys both its deep South Asian roots and its expansive, crazy-fun appeal,” reads a media release from Celebrate Shuswap. “The beautifully supercharged complexity of their sound flows from high-level folk, alternative-pop, with contemporary training, blended and delivered across an array of acoustic instruments – dhol, tabla, violin, guitar – and electronic beats, and immersed in smart, heavy, sometimes gritty, and almost invariably joyful beats.”

Celebrate Shuswap Society said this will be one of its biggest shows to date that “no doubt will attract music lovers from other communities to the west, east and south.”

The non-profit Celebrate Shuswap Society was established September 2021 to foster and present live music and other performing arts events in the Shuswap, and develop audience support for culture throughout the community.

Doors for the Saturday, April 20 all-ages event open at 7 p.m. with the opening band beginning at 7:30. Tickets and information are available through celebrateshuswap.ca.
