Shuswap author Alida Hilbrander says readers have been surprised by the scope of subjects covered in her book Moorings: Embracing the Grounds We Have Embarked Upon.

Part personal reflection, part metaphysical conversation starter and partly an environmental call to action, Hilbrander said she hopes her the book, released by Friesen Press in 2023, helps readers take a look at their own lives and begin to put together what brought them to where they are today.

Hilbrander explained Part 1 of the book, Healing the Web of Life, asks us to to “pay attention to where life is marginalized, and in particular with the Indigenous people in our own country, when we are asked to embrace the Oneness of our humanity.” Part 2, After Death Communication, focuses on how we are “Participating In One Life” – how our “experiences of loss and grief can create wholeness for ourselves.”

“There is a Gifting underneath it all, which we often are not aware of, but becoming more conscious of what we are personally involved in gives our lives more purpose and direction,” said Hilbrander. “It then naturally also finds its kindred spirits to encourage us on our journey through life.”

On Friday, April 19, Hilbrander will be signing copies of her book at Bookingham Palace in the Mall at Piccadilly between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
