A 633-kilometre drive to Salmon Arm ended in disappointment for the Prince George Spruce Kings.
This was after the players from PG suffered a 5-2 loss to the Silverbacks at Shaw Centre on Friday, Feb. 9.
Things got off well-enough for the Spruce Kings after Owen Goodbrand capitalized on a slashing call that sent Tristan Allen to the sin bin in the first half of the first period. The lead was short-lived, as minutes later Isaac Lambert rippled the mesh with assists by Nathan Mackie and Ryan Gillespie.
A lot of back-and-forth action in the second period saw Lambert again light up the board, this time with an early power-play goal assisted by Reid Varkonyi and JJ Monteiro. The Silverbacks successfully killed off a couple of penalties and held on to their 2-1 to the end of the frame.
Eight seconds into third period, Lambert scored a hat-trick with assists by Gillespie and Tristan Allen. At 13:28, Mackie added another goal for Salmon Arm, with Lambert and Ryan DeAngelis on the assists. Minutes later, teammate Nathaniel Davis notched one in, assisted by Maddux Martin.
Prince George got the last word, with a power-play goal at 19:21.
The Silverbacks are back on the ice with a pair of away games on Feb. 16 and 17 (West Kelowna and Vernon), and are back home on Feb. 19 when the take on the Penticton Vees.
