Salmon Arm well represented at BC Winter Games

Several Salmon Arm athletes did their hometown proud at the BC Winter Games.

More than 800 athletes participated in the Lhtako Quesnel 2024 BC Winter Games, Feb. 22 to 25. Among them was a pair of Salmon Arm curlers, Danielle Monteith and Scarlett Hutchison, both J.L. Jackson students. Together with Kyara O’Shea of Armstrong and Kennady Hallstrom from Kamloops, the team, representing Zone 7 at the Games, earned a 5th-place finish. Monteith also won gold in the individual female competition and Most Sportsmanlike honours. Hutchison came in 9th place in the individual female competition. The team was coached by Lorelei Guidos.

Larch Hills Nordic Junior Race team had several Salmon Arm cross-country skiers compete in the event: Kai Hansen, Ian Orchard, Kieran Parker and Étoile Brown, accompanied by coach Megan Brook. Saturday’s sprint races included a stretch through the main street of historic Barkerville.

Orchard earned a bronze medal in the Interval Start/Classic Technique 2009 Boys event, with Hansen coming in 9th. In the Interval Start/Classic Technique 2009 Girls event, Brown came in 9th.
