The Sicamous Eagles rebounded from a five-game slump Wednesday night after leaving the 100 Mile House Wranglers miles behind with an 11-1 win.
Not wasting any time, the Eagles struck early, with Warren Roberts-Lee sinking his first at the 1:31 mark, assisted by Luke Rothfros and Alex Smith. Hayden Evans, unassisted, and Daniel Kroon added the game-winner and an insurance goal later in the frame, with Devon Barclay and Everett Boutcher adding assists on the latter. Roberts-Lee book-ended the scoring spree with his second of the night off a pass from Smith before the host team finally managed to wrangle one of their own when Ethan Davey netted their one-and-only, unassisted.
In the second, Sicamous added to their lead with another two from Kroon, unassisted, and Ezra Chan, with assists from Caleb Dehoog and Marko Pavlovic in what was his 100th regular-season game with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
The team continued to gain momentum in the third, with Evans opening on an early power play, Boutcher and Josh Missfeldt adding assists, followed minutes later with Brendan Calahasen potting another with assists from affiliate player Levi Dewitt, and Dehoog. Roberts-Lee and Evans then got back-to-back hat tricks, assisted by Rothfros and Boutcher respectively before Roberts-Lee, who opened scoring, then closed it with his fourth of the night, assisted by Rothfros and Kroon.
“We have a good mix of defensive and offensive-minded defencemen,” head coach Nick Deschenes said of the team in an earlier media release. “Everyone brings a different element to the table.”
The Eagles now get a break and aren’t back on the ice until Friday, Feb. 16 as they take on the Revelstoke Grizzlies in their den, then return to the nest the following day, Feb. 17 for a rematch, before the playoffs start the following weekend.
