Sicamous is starting a new chapter as district staff look at installing a Little Free Library kiosk in town.

The Literacy Alliance of the Shuswap Society spoke with council regarding the project after having successfully installed the first such library in Salmon Arm last year, with assistant literacy outreach co-ordinator Violet Pilkey requesting a location on district property, and assistance with the installation.

The society suggested the library be placed by the playground in Finlayson Park at the recreation complex – a place where families gather. Nothing, however, is set in stone yet, though the district does support the project.

“This is a fantastic project for the community,” town manager Evan Parliament said. “We’re looking at several locations, nothing is finalized yet.”

While Pilkey is asking for help with the initial install, she explained the kiosk – which she plans to paint in the colours of Sicamous’ new branding – will be maintained by the Eagle Valley Community Support Society.

More information will be available as the district moves forward with the project.
