The City of Salmon Arm will be celebrating Natalie Wilkie’s accomplishments at the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympics with a parade through the downtown area on Friday, March 23. Everyone is welcome to attend and show their pride for Salmon Arm’s Paralympic champion.
Wilkie and her entourage will tour the town on a city fire truck, leaving Fire Station No. 3 at 11:30 a.m.. They will then travel through downtown, making the rounds through Shuswap Street, Ross Street, Alexander Street and Lakeshore Drive before making a final stop at city hall at noon.
Afterwards, a celebration and recognition of her outstanding athletic accomplishments will take place at city hall where she will be honoured by city officials and, likely, cheered on by a massive throng of hometown fans.
In her first ever outing to the Paralympics Wilkie surprised many with her strong showing in the cross-country skiing events, bringing home the full suite of medals: a bronze in the sprint, a silver in the relay and a gold in the 7.5 km race.
As a new face to the competition she told the Observer expected to attend more for the experience than a medal.
“So I just went out and skied my best and I won three medals which is awesome.”
