Lumber had to be plowed to the shoulder of Highway 1 in Malakwa following after the tractor-trailer driver hauling the load lost control of the vehicle on Friday

On Friday, Feb. 3, at approximately 6 p.m., Sicamous RCMP responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on Hwy. 1 in Malakwa.

“The truck was hauling a load of dressed lumber on two flat deck trailers,” said McNeil.”The lumber spilled onto the highway when the truck rolled onto its side which blocked both westbound lanes.”

McNeil said the weather at the time of the collision was poor, with icy conditions and low visibility. Highway maintenance crews were called in and opened both lanes with the assistance of a snow plow to clear the lumber into the ditch.

The truck and its load of lumber were removed the following day during daylight hours.

The driver of the truck, complaining of a sore neck and back, was transported to hospital in Salmon Arm. Police did not issue any charges to the driver as road conditions were a factor in the collision.
