Progress continues on an affordable housing project for seniors.
At its May 24 meeting, Sicamous council received the preliminary site plan for the 36-unit project the Eagle Valley Seniors Housing Society (EVSHS) will be building on the southern portions of 417 and 425 Main St.
District administrator Kelly Bennett explained the site plan shows what part of the property will be used for the EVSHS project, and what will be available to the district for its future residential/commercial development on Main.
“It’s four storeys, 36 units of senior housing, so I’m assuming there’s nine units per each floor,” said Bennett, adding there’s sufficient parking in the site plan. “This is approximately one acre… which leaves us 1.5 acres on Main Street for a future housing project.”
The plan shows road access to the proposed building via Gordon Mackie Lane.
“I think it’s an exciting project and I look forward to getting our expression of interest out right behind this so we can start developing…,” commented Mayor Colleen Anderson.
Project manager Maureen D’Angelo explained the specific building location was positioned in the plan to determine it would fit on the one acre land dedicated by the district.
“So the site plan works, we know that we meet all of the setbacks, all of the requirements, a good amount of greenspace and the exact location of that road coming through the current Eagle Valley properties –it may change a little – just so we all have clarity,” said D’Angelo, adding project construction may begin in 2024.
Council voted to direct staff to begin the subdivision process for 417 and 425 Main Street based on the site plan.
