Caution on B.C. Highways.

Snowfall alert for Interior Highways

Environment Canada is calling for between 20 and 25 cm of snow to fall on the Coquihalla today.

If you’re headed home after the holidays or into city centres for some Boxing Day shopping be cautious on the Interior roads.

DriveBC is warning of slippery sections and compact snow on a majority of provincial highways.

Motorists travelling in-and-out of the Okanagan and Shuswap can expect winter driving conditions on Highway, 1, 3, 6, 6EW, 33, 97, 97C, Westside Road and the Coquihalla.

Environment Canada is issuing a snowfall alert for the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt and on Highway 3, from the Paulson Summit to the Kootenay Pass. A Pacific storm is forecast for the inland today and across the interior tonight — approximately 20 to 20 centimetres of snow is expected.

In higher elevations along Highway 1 and near the Pennask Summit, 2 to 5 cm is anticipated.

Overnight expect more snow to fall, between 5 to 10 centimetres in the mountain passes.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

In the Okanagan Valley, snow will begin to fall about noon with wind gusting up to 40 kilometres an hour. Approximately 2 to 4 cm of snow will fall this afternoon with another 5 cm overnight. Temperatures will hold steady near -4 C.

For Tuesday, the Central, North and South Okanagan will experience flurries throughout the day, with light wind and temperatures near -3C.

Check DriveBC for updates on road conditions.
