June 25, 1939 - March 18, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
Mom passed away on Saturday March 18, at 2023. Her brother Griff, and myself, were by her side. We all had a very beautiful last 30 hours.
Surrounded by family, Mom was laughing, reminiscing, comfortable and bathed in love and caring.
Alice Marjorie Adams was born to John Coleman and Marjorie Faith (nee Thomas) on June 25, 1939, in Melfort Saskatchewan.
Mom has two brothers, Griff, who is older, and Jack, younger. They were an adventurous bunch, owning and operating a hotel, pub and restaurant at Zeballos on Vancouver Island, to cater to the loggers, miners, and fishermen in the area. WW 2 was in full swing, not tourism.
Later, Mom's family built and ran a 16 lane bowling alley, 8 up, and 8 down, which they named The Bowl Away. That was on Fraser and 42nd, in Vancouver, across from John Oliver High School, which Mom attended. Her parents clearly had a keen business sense. (Location. Location. Location.)
Mom graduated in 1957, and she went then to work for the government in the income tax branch. Later she attended UBC where she met this rather handsome and charming fellow student, named Rudy Isaac.
Six months later they were married, and this past summer was their 62nd anniversary.
Rudy and Alice have three kids, Dwayne, Brad, and Cheryl.
We were a wild bunch. And She did great!
Later, she was thrilled to become a Grandma, first to Lenneke Vinoly, then Colin Duckworth, Natasha Isaac, and lastly, Ryan Isaac. I don't think anyone has to guess how excited she was to welcome her Great Grandchildren, Grace and Cooper.
She always had a career, which not a lot of Mom's did then, but in our neighbourhood, in Golden, most Mom's did. It was a great time for kids, especially a girl, to grow up.
Mom was a kindergarten teacher, and then substitute teacher for many years, she had a great run with some amazing ladies at the Information Centre at the top of Golden hill, and later when that closed down, she joined Parks Canada in Yoho.
When Dad retired in 1989, and they came full time to Sicamous, she accepted the position to take charge of the manor for a few years.
Mom loves are, next to her family and friends, curling, camping, walking, and fishing. Fishing was by far her favourite pastime. She's always been the first one in their boat out on the water, and the last one back on land.
Mom has been blessed, as they have, to have had, great female friendships. We grew up with a lot of laughter in our home and a lot of activities that involved other families...Mom cherished those bonds with her Ladies.
Mom managed to keep everyone around her organized, and on task, she definitely got things done. She never panicked,...she is one cool lady, so calm, and with so much sunshine. Always a smile on her face.
It's going to be pretty easy to put into words how amazing Mom is.
She never had to raise her voice to be heard.
She had boundaries.
She is courage,
strength.
She has been the most wonderful and supportive Mother any child could have. Dad has had the most loyal loving and supportive wife out there, they have been such an amazing team.
Nothing stopped them.
She is the first truly adventurous woman I got to know, and speaking personally, as a young girl, I have been aware, just how fortunate, I am to have had her. We all are so lucky.
She is a wild child and a free spirit...
Her laugh and smile we will hear and see for always.
Her great empathy, her strong love, her never ending support, her powerful mental strength,....
And,
There are words I'm missing, I'm sure, but if there were only one word allowed to describe Mom, it's easy.
Grace.
Her Grace. She truly is Grace.
Alice Marjorie Isaac is Grace.
Mom was pre deceased by her Son Brad, her brother Jack, her parents, her grandparents, and several close friends. Mom has very solid beliefs, so she has a very healthy way of dealing with physical death. Mom's presence will be so deeply missed, and we will celebrate her properly on Friday March 31st, 2pm, at Bowers in Salmon Arm.
We encourage people to come and share their memories of Mom with us. Everyone is Welcome, tea to follow at Bowers, then a gathering at the family home, (directions to follow) again, all are welcome. BYOB and a lawn chair. It will be indoors/outdoors, we'll have a fire pit, and go wherever the day and mood takes us ❤️Mom wouldn't have it any other way. It's going to be a party, just how she liked them.
Thank you all for the support through this time. We are deeply grateful.
We hope to see many of you on the 31st.
The Isaac Family.
