John William (Bill) Rhodes was born on February 26, 1921 to Thomas & Eliza Rhodes in Lincolnshire, England and passed away on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
He came to Canada in 1925 with his family which later grew to have 10 children. He grew up on the family farm near Virden, MB.
He married Lil Milburn and in the early 1940’s they moved to British Columbia and raised their family of 5 children in Sicamous, BC. He worked in the logging industry and then for the Department of Highways and was very proud of all the work he did.
Lucy McNutt came into his life 39 years ago. During that time they enjoyed many fishing and camping trips, worked hard together hauling many cords of wood and were very good friends and were happy together.
He was predeceased by his Parents, Brothers Ernie and Cecil and Sisters Nellie and Kay. He leaves to mourn his death; his Daughters Gloria and Lois and Sons Gordie (Lisa), Freddie (Linda) & Glen (Christel), as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his Sisters Daisy Aitchison and Dorothy Ivey, Brothers Tommie and Arthur Rhodes and Sister-in-law Marie (Cecil) Rhodes as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Arrangements are in the care of Fischer’s Funeral Services. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, February 17th at the Royal Canadian Legion #99 in Sicamous. Donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Cancer Society.
