March 3, 1934 - December 30, 2021
David Riley passed away peacefully at the age of 87 after a fulfilling and adventurous life. A lifelong resident of BC, he spent the majority of his life exploring and maintaining the marvellous forests of the Columbia-Shuswap. David will be remembered for his passion for all things outdoors. He held great pride in his 55-year career as an accomplished and dedicated forester.
We remember David as a hard-working and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty, daughter Sarah, and brother Donald.
He leaves behind his children: Ruth, David, Vicky, Toby and Nathan, grandchildren: Dion, Sean, Shane, Lindsey, Maddy, Mattias, Tori, Kelsi, Konnor, Aaron, Bethany, Kaelah, Olivia, Brielle, and Emerson and great-grandchildren: Shamus, Sheala Rae, Kolbie, Breanna, Betty, Emery, and Ewan.
He also leaves behind his sister Carol-Ann and numerous extended family members.
David had an inquisitive mind and dedicated much of his spare time to learning. He amassed a vast library and could often be found lost in a good book. As devout, fundamentalist Christians he and Betty were serious students of the bible. Both reflected these values through their kindness, generosity, and selflessness.
In his latter years, David dedicated much of his time to researching his family's genealogy and wrote a detailed history for future generations.
Throughout David's life his hearty laughter, engaging conversation, outspoken nature, and characteristic sarcasm remained with him. At his request there was no formal funeral service, and instead there was a small family graveside gathering. In lieu of flowers please honour David's love and passion for the outdoors by donating to the Malakwa Community Association or the Shuswap Naturalist Club.
