If the Sicamous Eagles resolved to bring home a banner in the new year, they’re not exactly off to the best of starts.
The team played and lost a trio of home games last week against the North Okanagan Knights (4-3), the Revelstoke Grizzlies (5-3) and the Osoyoos Coyotes (4-2).
Brendon Wilde potted two for the Eagles – one in the first period and one in the second – in their Jan. 6 game against the Knights. Sicamous’ third goal came from Connor Fynn. Assists came from Kory Movold, Steven Powers, Jagger Bowles, Brett Bretitkreuz, Fynn and James Stoski.
On Jan. 7, in the Eagles’ game against Revelstoke, Connor Fynn put in the only Sicamous goal in the first period that was otherwise dominated by the Grizzlies. Sicamous picked up their game in the second period, and, despite being outshot by Revelstoke, put in the only goals of that period. They came from Nathan Grieve and Brendan Devries, with assists from Tarren Cavanaugh, Powers, Wilde and Mike Piderman.
The Eagles’ most humbling game was their Jan. 8 contest against the Coyotes. The Eagles had 97 shots on net, two of which managed to find the back. Those goals came from Corbin Marcotte and Powers, aided by Brett Trofanenko and Brad Crump. Osoyoos potted two goals in the second frame and two in the third, including an empty net shot with 10 seconds left on the clock.
Eagles manager Wayne March chalked the week up to the team having zero practices during their two week break. Regardless, he still expects the Eagles will make the playoffs.
The team’s next game is on Friday, Jan. 13 in Armstrong where they will once again take on the Knights.
