Whether Cody Franson will be suiting up for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2013/14 NHL season remains to be seen.

Franson, a restricted free agent, is up for contract renewal, as is fellow Leaf Nazeem Kadri. And, on July 30, the franchise announced it had secured a one-year contract with Mark Fraser, who had been seeking $2 million.

Signing Fraser gives the Leafs eight defencemen on the roster.

Kadri pulled in $1.72 million last season, while Franson earned $1.2 million on a one-year contract. Both are also looking for a pay increase for the 2013/14 season. Franson is rumored to be looking for more than $4 million a season. The Leafs, however, were said to have about $6 million to spend, prior to the Fraser deal. Subsequently, the Leafs may be looking to trade the 6’5”, 213-lb. Sicamous product.

Franson tallied four goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 45 games last season.
